Elner V. Berger, 88, of Sunbury, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
She was born July 22, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward and Estalla (Adams) Zerbe.
Elner attended Sunbury schools.
She was employed most of her life with The Salvation Army.
She served in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, including Sunbury, Hazelton, and Easton Corps. Her final service prior to retirement was in New York City.
Elner was an active member of the Sunbury Salvation Army at the time of her death.
She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Carol Spigelmeyer and husband, Allen; niece, Sue Ann Attig; and numerous other nieces and nephews for whom she cared and prayed for regularly.
She was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by six brothers, George, Charles, Elmer, Milton, Jack and Paul Zerbe; six sisters, Rebecca Maggs, Martha Brunson, Margaret Zimmerman, Sarah Poff, Marne Zerbe, and Ruth Attig; and her close friend, Ruth McCrea.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 2.
Interment will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
The family wishes to thank The Manor at Penn Village for the outstanding care she received during the final six months of her life and her dear, faithful friend, Elaine Bacon for her years of friendship and visits.
