M. Darlene Wilson, 74, of Platteville died on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at her home.

Darlene was born on March 15, 1944 in Kendall Twp., Lafayette County, daughter of William and Grace (White) Riter. She was united in marriage to Carl Wilson on April 25, 1964 at the United Methodist Church, Platteville.

Darlene worked at Southwest Regional Planning & Zoning where she was a map maker. Before that she worked for the Wisconsin DOT and Electrons Inc, a soap factory. She took a short course in cake decorating and she along with Pat Schaefer, made many wedding and anniversary cakes for people.

Darlene and Carl purchased a farm in 1969 where she worked along side Carl. She was a member of the Grant County Pork Producers, where she received the ladies Bell ringer award. They sold the farm and moved to town in 1987. After moving to town she worked to receive her degree in Geography through UW- Platteville.

While attending UW-Platteville, she took a trip to the Grand Canyon where she trekked ten miles down and ten miles back up. She was a 4-H leader for the Franklin Live Wires, she enjoyed traveling to Branson, Nashville, and Gatlinburg enjoying many shows. She was an avid Badger, Brewer and Packer fan, she even had a Green Bay Packer lawn tractor. She enjoyed quilting and attending quilting shows. She loved her Jack Russell Terrier, Peaches. Darlene and Carl purchased a farm which many of their relatives had lived on including their two sons, it was in 2009 where she was helping Carl plant corn and the neighbors gave her the nick name of “Corn planting lady”.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; two sons, Dean (Michelle) Wilson; Don Wilson; grandchildren, Jessica (Chas) Featherston, Alysha (Tristan Reynolds) Alexander, Cadin Cook, Brady and Kam Wilson; four great-grandsons, Jackson and Ben Reynolds and Liam and Alex Featherston; one brother, Norman (MaryAnn) Riter. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Wesley Riter.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at the Belmont Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the M. Darlene Memorial Fund.
