June Marie Simmons, 81, a resident of Sun and Ski Road, passed away April 18, 2014 at her home with her family by her side. June was born in Queens, New York on June 17, 1932 the second daughter of the late Charles and Lillian (Vaquer) Simmons. June received her education in Queens, graduating from Grover Cleveland High School. She trained as a registered nurse and graduated from the Metropolitan School of Nursing, as (RN) Registered Nurse, and received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi (Hattesburgh). June enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict and served active duty in Viet Nam as a Medevac Nurse flying in and out of Viet Nam, evacuating casualties and bringing them home. June left Viet Nam achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and received the Air Force Star. June retired form the United States Air Force relocating to Vermont where she lived until her death. Upon her retirement, June worked at the Vermont National Bank and volunteered at the Town Hall and Library. June also volunteered for the Welcome Baby Program in Wilmington and was a very active member of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. June enjoyed traveling, listening to opera music, knitting, crocheting, was an avid reader and spending time with her family. June also loved education and stressing the value of a good education to her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her brother Philip C. Simmons and sister Mary Zader Simmons.
