William Earl (Bill) Pierson passed away on September 20, 2018 in Peoria, Arizona. Bill had been suffering from the effects of dementia over the past few years and in declining health for some time.
Born in Geff, Illinois on November 22, 1927 to Jake and Fern (Simons) Pierson. He entered the Army Air Corps in 1945 and was stationed in Japan as part of the occupational forces until his separation as a Staff Sergeant in November 1948.
Bill returned to the Fairfield area and held a variety of jobs, eventually managing the old Ashland Oil service station on West Main. He married Leona Kearfott in 1950, before reentering the Air Force in 1956. Together they raised 4 children.
His Air Force assignments took him to Illinois, Saudi Arabia, New Jersey, Mississippi, Florida, back to Illinois, Arizona, France, South Carolina, Viet Nam, Indiana and finally California. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 as a Senior Master Sergeant before settling in Goodyear, Arizona. His service years were happy years and he was proud to have served his country. He was a true patriot.
Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joy; his half-sister Wilma Gaby (Tom) of Freeburg IL; his 4 children: Glen (Cindy) of Tucson AZ; Richard (Lisa) of Peoria AZ; Nancy Veich (Greg) of Goodyear AZ and Robert (Gwen) also of Goodyear AZ; 8 grand children and 8 great grand children.
A visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W Thunderbird Rd, Peoria AZ 85381 on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 4-7:00 pm. A Burial will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024 on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 9:30am.
