Mrs. Mathilda Black had reached advanced age of 80 years at time of demise.
The death of Mrs. Mathilda Black, 80, a native of Germany, who came to this country and this city 46 years ago, occurred at 2 o’clock Friday morning, Aug. 7, at the home of her son, Fred lack at 420 State Street. Although suffering ill health since last autumn Mrs. Black had been up and about until half a day before her passing. Her death was attributed to heart trouble.
Mathilda Black, nee Daehn, was born in Germany, March 9, 1854. In 1890 she immigrated to America, locating in Hartford, where two years later she was married at the Peace Lutheran church to Gottfried Black. Her husband died in November, 1933. Mr. and Mrs. Black were the parents of three sons, one of whom passed away in infancy. Those surviving their mother are Fred, residing on State St., and Frank, living on Fourth St., in this city. She also leaves six grandchildren and four brothers, and one sister, residents of the country; Fed Daehn, Loyal; Frank, august and Reinhold Daehn, Hartford; Mrs. William Kadolph, Hartford. She also has on sister residing in Germany.
Mrs. Black was a devoted member of the St. John’s church of this city, under the auspices of which her funeral was held on Monday afternoon of this week. Services were conducted at the residence at 1:30 o’clock followed by more elaborate rites at the church at 2 o’clock. The Rev. R. E. Schwarze had charge of the obsequies and burial took place in the Pleasant Hill cemetery.
