Rose Catherine Thornton, known as Cathy all of her life, 74 years of age, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 2:03 pm, Saturday, September 22, 2018 surrounded by her family in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth after a brief illness.

Cathy was born on January 31, 1944, daughter of the late Oscar D. and Viola M. (Tarbert) Allen. Cathy was the next to the youngest of eleven children and was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, Rex and David Allen and sisters, Marjorie Trobaugh, Mary Jane Sparks and Charlotte Shumaker. She is survived by brothers Dan Allen of Westville, IN, Dale (Leah) Allen of Cape Coral, FL., Jim (Delores) Allen of Arcadia, FL, and Gary (Georgina) Allen of Goshen, IN. Cathy graduated from Bremen High School with the class of 1962 and on July 20, 1962 she married the love of her life, Dennis Thornton, who survives, and on July 20, 2018 they celebrated 56 years of marriage. Together they were blessed with three daughters, Lee Ann (Steve) Walter, Lisa (Blas) Flores and Lori (Chad) Barnaby, all of Bremen. Also left to cherish her memory are twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two more great grandchildren on the way.

Cathy worked for the former Kenney's Supermarket, Bremen, Borneman Products, Bremen and retired from Cardinal Services after ten years as a caregiver for special needs individuals at the Bremen Birkey Street home. Cathy was a long time member of Sunrise Chapel Church in Plymouth where she taught the young kids Sunday School Class, sang in the alto section of the choir and recently has been attending the County Line Brethren Church, Lakeville. Cathy and Dennis spent several winters at their winter home in Sebring, Florida. Holidays were always a special time for Cathy as she decorated and cooked for the entire family. She could not get enough time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids, whom she always worried about and loved dearly. She also had a special spot for her little humming bird friends with their feeders always filled with fresh sugar water just outside of the family room window.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm, Friday, September 28, 2018 in Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen.
