Thomas was paternal grandson of Patrick Kenneth Daly and Gertrude Ann McIsaac, and maternal grandson of John George Buliga and Michaelina "Lena" Strutenski. John George Buliga was the son of Gregor Buliga and Anna Pascar, ethnic Romanian immigrants from Tereblecea in Bucovina, Austria-Hungary (present day Terebleche in Ukraine, just over the Romanian border).
