16. BENJAMIN 4 (Benjamin 3-2 Thomas 1), b. in Hing. Aug. 17, 1699. m. first, Dec. 8, 1720, Mary Loring, dau. of Capt. Thomas and Leah (Buckland) Loring. She was b. in Hing. Sep. 16, 1696, and d. 20 May, 1721, aet. 25th yr. He m. secondly, Oct. 31, 1723, Mrs. Elizabeth (Thaxter) Norton, wid. of Capt. John Norton, and dau. of Col. Samuel and Hannah (Gridley) Thaxter. She was b. in Hing. Sept. 18, 1692, and d. 11 Jan. 1762 aet. 69 yrs. The Honorable Benjamin Lincoln (also kn. as "Colonel") d. 1 March, 1771, aet. 72d yr. "Maltster," and "trader." Was selectman sixteen yrs., i.e., between 1727 and 1750; succeeded his fa. as town-clerk, having been elected to the office July 24, 1727. Represented the town at the Gen. Court in 1746, 1747, and 1748, and was a member of his Majesty's Council from 1753 to 1770, when he resigned his seat on the board. Resided on the paternal homestead, North, corner of Lincoln St.
