From a book created for the 20-year class reunion of the Harrison County High School Class of 1968:

Shannon attended Lindsay Wilson College for one year and then transferred to Transylvania University on scholarship. After one semester, she married Jerry Murphy, from Brandenburg, Kentucky. They lived in California, where Jerry was stationed in the Navy, and then moved to Rotta, Spain. While there, Shannon discovered she had leukemia. She died in January 1976 at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Shannon and Jerry had a daughter, Lisa Marie, who is now 15 years old (in July 1988).

Shannon Raye Murphy, age 25, of 400 North 2nd Street, Laurel, Maryland, died Thursday, January 8, 1976, at Bethesda Naval Hospital, in Bethesda, Maryland. She was born in Fayette County, Kentucky, on September 16, 1950, the daughter of Vard Taylor and Marjorie Hixon Taylor. Shannon was the daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Murphy, of Brandenburg.

She is survived by: her husband, Jerry Dale Murphy; a daughter, Lisa Maria Murphy; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vard Taylor, of Cynthiana, Kentucky; a brother, Michael Taylor, of Cynthiana; and her grandmother, Mr. Hallie Taylor, of Richmond, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, at Brandenburg United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kenneth Lile officiating. Interment was in Cap Anderson Cemetery, directed by Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Randal Cobb, Charles E. Benton, Noland R. Benton, Larry J. Murphy, Kenneth Ritchie, Jr., and William F. Barham.
