MUNCIE- Jesse H. Rhodes, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Friday, September 21, 2018.
He graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1953 and was part of the 1952 State Championship Bearcats basketball team. He was a carpenter by trade and was a member of the Carpenters Local 1016. He was a professional musician who performed on WLBC TV and radio in the 1950s and continued to play throughout the years, and he was a member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society and Moose and Elks clubs. In addition, he was an avid golfer and a member of Crestview Golf Club. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he loved singing and playing his guitar for the Lord.
Jesse is survived by the love of his life and wife of forty-six years, Wanda Rhodes; his children, Greg Rhodes and Theresa Toburen; grandchildren, Kyle Cooper, Jesse Leigh Toburen, Sabrina Goodpastor, Kristi Rhodes, and Gregory Rhodes who has carried on his musical legacy which his grandfather was very proud of. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Vernon Rhodes as well as his siblings, Sam Rhodes, Lelton Rhodes, Syble Smith, and Oreda VanBuskirk.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the mortuary.
