Clarence Dean Edwards, 87, formerly of Virden, IL passed away at 11:22 A.M. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Heritage Health, Springfield, IL surrounded by his loving family.
Clarence was born in Virden, IL, a son to Clarence W. and Myrtle Gertrude (Connally) Edwards. He grew up in Virden and graduated from Virden High School in 1948. He married Joan Ward in 1952 before entering the service.
Clarence served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member and attended Thayer United Methodist Church, Thayer, IL. He was a member of the American Legion Post #386. Clarence went to work for Franklin Life Insurance Company in Springfield, IL where he was a member of DPMA since 1965 and he served as National Legislative Network Director for 6 years. His passion was working with computer languages and mainframes. He retired from Franklin Life after 38 years of service in 1987. He loved to bowl, golf, go to the river boats, read and most of all travel where he proudly said he had visited all 50 states.
Surviving Clarence is his son, Ward William (Joann) Edwards of Springfield, IL; brothers, Darrell and Russell Edwards both of Virden, IL; longtime companion Yvonne Davies; 2 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Clarence in death are his parents; wife, Joan Edwards and brothers, Robert, John and Don Edwards.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with the Funeral Service starting immediately following the visitation at 2:00 P.M. Officiating will be Rev. Chuck Kurfman.
Memorials may be made to the Thayer United Methodist Church, Thayer, IL.
Interment will be in the Virden Cemetery, Virden, IL.
