Tommie Jean Barnes, 80, died on Friday, September 21, 2018. Tommie grew up in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Texas, and attended Roger Q. Mills Elementary, Boude Story Jr. High, and was a proud honors graduate of W. H. Adamson High School, where she was a Leopardette, Head Leopardette, and Majorette. She was a longtime member of Tyler Street UMC in Oak Cliff and Custer Road UMC in Plano. She was a past president of both the Garland/Richardson Texas A&M Mothers’ Club and the Chancey Book Club. Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Lancaster and Eula Duncan Lancaster, and her sister, Willette Morgan. Tommie was survived by her husband of 63-plus years, Jesse Barnes; three children, Valerie Garnier and husband Tom of Coppell, Texas, Vicki Williams and fiancé Marc Savoia of Haymaket, Virginia; and son, Russell Barnes and wife Zhiying of Allen, Texas; and grandchildren, Meredith Schaaf, Christopher Williams, and Nicole Williams. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, at Restland Cemetery, with Rev Jack Gibson officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Whispering Waters.
