Charlotte was born January 2, 1935, in Kewanee, Illinois and raised in Princeville by her parents Karl and Elsie (Turner) Keller. She married Howard W. Yates in October of 1972 and moved with her family to Southern California the following year. After retirement, the couple returned to Illinois and resided in Wyoming until his death in 2016. Charlotte moved to Glendale, Arizona, to be closer to friends and family the following year.
Charlotte is survived by two daughters, Donita (George) Asmus of Discovery Bay, CA, and Toni (Frank) Honsowetz of El Segundo, CA. Also surviving are four step-sons, Michael (Rae Lynn) Yates of Peoria, David (Marie) Yates of Trenton, SC, Daniel Yates of Titusville, FL and Kirk (Barbara) Yates of Atlanta, Georgia, along with 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and her son, Dennis Dean Young, Sr.
Charlotte was a graduate of Brown’s Business College and worked mostly as a bookkeeper for a variety of companies in Southern California.
Like her husband, Charlotte was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. The pair enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Arizona and California. Her hobbies included a variety of arts and crafts, such as knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed weekly games of poker and bingo at the clubhouse in her Glendale, AZ, community.
Charlotte and Howard were long-time members of the Princeville Baptist Church, which her parents co-founded in 1970. At Charlotte’s request, burial services will be held privately at the Princeville Township Cemetery with Pastor Lee Taylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Princeville Baptist Church.
The family would like to express appreciation to all her local friends for their many acts of kindness throughout her lifetime. In addition, they would like to acknowledge her many Arizona friends and neighbors, who greatly enriched the final years of her life.
