Ruth Williams Fisher, a resident of Hickory, and North Myrtle Beach, S.C., died peacefully the evening of Sept. 13, 2018.

She was the wife of the late James (Jim) Edward Fisher, and the daughter of the late John Clinton Williams and Leslie Anderson Williams.

Ruth was also preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Williams.

Ruth was born and raised on a farm in Grace Chapel. There she fell in love with the land, and its' colorful blooming trees, scented flowers, and tasty vegetables. She also loved all of God's creatures, large and small, from the old mule and laying hens, to barn kittens.

In school Ruth was a member of the Beta Club. She graduated from Granite Falls High School and later, Helen Glenn's Secretarial School in Hickory. She was employed by Piedmont Natural Gas for many years. In her late forties Ruth decided to follow her dream of being an interior designer. She attended the New York School of Interior Design and later Central Piedmont Community College Interior Design Program. She also worked as a designer for Lenox Sales in Lincolnton.

Although raised on a farm, Ruth had an entrepreneur spirit. At age 56 she opened her own art gallery and furniture store called One of a Find. Yearly, Ruth traveled to Baltimore, Md., to attend the American Craft Council Show. She loved to journey throughout the mountains all the way to the coast of North Carolina to discover old and new artists and invite them to display their crafts, paintings, pottery, sculptures, and blown glass. To her surprise, Ruth was featured on Carolina Camera with Cecil Bost. She was also kind and generous, helping out many a starving artist by paying their electric bill, or putting food on the table for anyone in need. Ruth enjoyed hiking in the Blowing Rock area with her friends, Dee, Kitty, Charlene, and Merle.

She had fond memories of antiquing and going on picnics with Pat and Sarah and vacationing with a house full of children at Long Beach, N.C. Ruth adored her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grands; her dogs, Woo, Sasha, Baby, Sugar, and Molly. She enjoyed her home on Lake Hickory with its' fragrant and colorful gardens; and her condo on the ocean where she and Jim loved to walk and gaze at the sea. Most of all, Ruth loved God and was forever thankful for God's love and grace during the valley and mountain top experiences of her 88 years of life.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Ruth and Edward Thomas Sain of Newton; daughter and son-in-law, Monta Anne Maki and Clayton Smith Curry Jr. of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Michael Gordon Kilby and wife, Sherri, of Hickory; David Clinton Kilby and his wife, Melissa, of Alexandria, Va.; and Ginger Nicole Harrelson and her husband, Adam, of Conover; and six great-grandchildren, Braxton Baker Kilby, Arya Lynn Kilby, Isabella Kate Harrelson, Taylor York and husband Latham, Bryson Stirewalt, and Conner Stirewalt; and her precious little Molly.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23, at Oakwood Cemetery with The Rev. Dr. Shirley Redmond officiating and The Rev. Monta Maki assisting. The family will receive friends following the services at the Wynnshire Ridge Community Clubhouse.
