LUMBERTON — James Carlie Maynor, 81, of 4556 N.C. 72 West, passed away Oct. 10, 2013, at his home after a brief illness. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, the Revs. Keith Long and Tommy Gist officiating. Burial will follow in the Burnt Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Maynor was born in Robeson County on Aug. 29, 1932, the son of the late Carson and Zettie Mae Maynor. He attended Burnt Swamp Baptist Church and Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Lucy Maynor; two sons, Ronald and Randy Maynor; a sister, Allean Locklear; and a adopted brother, Zar Maynor. James Maynor was a self-educated man that rose to prominence and left footprints in the local community through hard work and determination. Mr. Maynor started business as owner of Maynor's Grocery located on U.S. 74, he went on to become the founder and CEO of Jamestown Enterprises which included Randy's Food Country, Jamestown Trailer Parks, Mobile Home Sales, Car Dealerships and various real estate holdings. Mr. Maynor was the happiest in the kitchen cooking and feeding his friends and family, he was a political planner and activist, loved to work on his tractor around his home, and always made himself available to lend a helping hand to his family and friends. He was a major contributor to both the business, private, and political community of Robeson County for over 50 years. Numerous Community leaders and individuals knew that they could count on Mr. Maynor for his wisdom and knowledge, as he was a mentor to many. Prior to his illness, James Maynor's life and contributions have left an impression on the lives and welfare of Robeson County's citizens. He is survived by two sons, James H (Bonk) Maynor and Carson Maynor of Lumberton; four daughters, Brenda Jones (Daniel) of Pembroke, Linda Locklear (Kenneth) of Lumberton, Elaine Oxendine (Steve) and Gearline Locklear (Bill), both of Shannon; a foster son, Keith Woods (Kris) of Tennessee, and his loving companion of 35 years, Lottie Locklear of Pembroke. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Locklear of Lumberton; and a host of relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Joseph Roberts and Community Home and Hospice Care and Nurse Jackie Chavis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Revels Funeral Home Lumberton.
