Douglas J. (Doug) Perry of Herkimer, passed away peacefully two days short of his 74th birthday on Tuesday September 18, 2018 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY with his loving family by his side.

He was born September 20, 1944 in Malone, NY the son of the late Elmer and Mildred (Bigness) Perry.

Doug was educated in Herkimer and Little Falls schools.

He was married to Mary E. Kennedy - Heaton on July 29, 1990 in Herkimer, NY.

Doug was employed at the former Herkimer Distributions, LLC in East Herkimer until his retirement in 2016. Prior to that he worked at the former MDS.

Doug was a man dedicated to his family, always putting the needs of his loved ones first. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making furniture for his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling to the local casinos to test his luck and in the summers he loved to go camping. He was the most tranquil when he was with his canine companion, Gypsy.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Mary; six daughters, Melissa Sternbach and husband Richard of Massachusetts, Diana Barhydt and James Harris of Texas, Aimee Strife and husband Rob of South Carolina, Tammy Zyskowski and husband Dale of Stittsville, Kimberly Heaton of Mohawk and Brenda Heaton of Herkimer; three brothers, Albert Perry of Ilion, Bruce Perry of Herkimer, and Bryan Perry and wife Lyn of Herkimer; a sister, Carol Klock of Herkimer; 11 grandchildren, Zoe, Eli, Brandon, Kayla, Jordan, Breanna, Ciara, Hunter, Blake, Trinity and Zane; a great granddaughter, Gracie. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Carlynn) Kennedy of Florida; three brothers-in-law, John (Chris) Kennedy, David (Janice) Kennedy and Stephen (Jayne Dunn) Kennedy; a sister-in-law, Georgia (Earl) Hence; two aunts, and uncle, several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Everett and Ann Fical of Ilion.

He was pre-deceased by a sister, Elaine Garrand, father-in-law, George Kennedy and a brother-in-law, James Klock.
