Preston Leroy Smith was born in New Orleans, La. March 10, 1935 third of seven children to Jimmie and Dora Smith.
Longtime member of Pure Light Baptist Church until 2005 and was baptized by the late Rev. Dr. Arthur Monday, Jr. at an early age.
He attended New Orleans Public School System where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.
After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served admirably as Sergeant and Staff Sergeant.
After 33 years of employment for the United States Postal Service, Preston retired in 1990.
He married the love of his life Shirley Kitt Smith and committed to each other for 60 years.
He was raised and lived in New Orleans majority of his life until August 2005.
He relocated to Houston, TX. due to Hurricane Katrina where he join Mt. Sinai Baptist Church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Jimmie and Herbert, sister Rosemarie Terrie.
He is survived by Shirley Smith, wife of 60 years, children Preston (Chip) Smith Jr. (Brenda), Sabrina Smith and Lisa Smith a host of relatives and friends.
