Phyllis was born on December 7,1932, in Fairfax, Mo., the daughter of John S. and Bess (Prater) Robinson. Throughout her career she worked as a clerk for MGM Studios, as a lunch lady at the Elm Grove Elementary School in the Fort Osage School District, and as a catalog clerk for the Mid-Continent Public Library Distribution Center before retiring in 1990. She loved music, dancing, feeding the birds and being outdoors. Phyllis was an exceptional gardener with beautiful gardens and was a past member of the Raytown Garden Club. She was an avid camper, traveling all over the country in her 5-wheel camper with her husband, Melvin.
Phyllis was survived by one son, Grant (Maggi) James of Sugar Creek, Mo.; one daughter, Laura (Mike) Lower of Blue Springs, Mo; four grandchildren, Heather Lambeth, Erin (Jason) Lata, Staci (Parker) Logan and Austin Lower; seven great- grandchildren, Brennon, Aspen, Emmet, Madi, Nellie, Landrie and Audrie; and two brothers Jack (Phyllis) Robinson of Allen, Texas and Jim (Naomi) Robinson of Raymore, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin James; three sisters, Ruth Boyd, Alice Hire and Dorothy Poindexter; and three brothers, Edwin, Gene and Donald Robinson.
Services were held at 11am. Friday, Sept.14, 2018 at the New Salem Funeral Home in Independence preceded by a visitation at 10am. Burial was in the New Salem Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Royer's New Salem, Independence, MO.
