Robert Donald (Don) Wilkes, 86, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018 at his home after a brief battle with lung cancer.

He was born in Happy, Texas on September 30, 1931, son of the late, Herbert and Alice Wilkes.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pat Wilkes; 3 children, Debra Hunter (Steve), Stacy Christian (Larry), and Tracy Wilkes (Karan); 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Lenora Starnes (Jack) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Odell Wilkes and Carl Wilkes.

He graduated high school from Happy, Texas in 1950 and served in the United States Navy for almost four years.

He then attended West Texas State University and Texas Tech University.

He began a career with Amerada Hess in 1957 and worked in Seminole, Texas, Monument, New Mexico and Williston, North Dakota until his retirement in 1991.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading an spending time with his family. He was a Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years. He loved church and above all, he loved Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of San Angelo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 21, 2018 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
