Johnny Howard Bailey, 87, died on September 17, 2018. He was born on February 4, 1931 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Lonnie and Mattie Bailey. Howard’s family moved to Shreveport when he was a young child. Howard joined the United States Air Force in 1951 where he served overseas in Morocco and received the National Defense Service Medal. He later attended the University of Houston. Howard started an air conditioning business which he operated for many years before selling it and retiring 25 years ago. Howard owned and managed residential real estate long into his retirement years.

Howard had an infectious sense of humor and always found a reason to smile. He enjoyed fishing, traveling around the country with his family in their RV, and bringing his grandchildren donuts every Saturday morning for 20 years. He and his daughter Lori spent many hours fishing throughout Louisiana and Mexico. After Howard retired, he enjoyed volunteering 5 days a week for many organizations. He drove for Meals on Wheels, made salsa for the Louisiana Children’s Methodist Home in Ruston and volunteered for numerous church organizations. Howard was a member of Christ United Methodist Church but never missed his special First Methodist Sunday School class or his Wednesday morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Christ Methodist.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Bailey and his special childhood dog, Jeepers. Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Anderene Grill Bailey. He is also survived by his daughters, Cathy B. McHugh and husband Bill and Lori B. Houston and husband Eric; grandchildren, Dr. Ashley McHugh White and husband Dr. Randall White, Aubri McHugh, Matthew McHugh, and Cole Houston; sister-in-law, Lillian Bailey; and nieces, Linda and Liz. He is also survived by Anderene’s children, Keith Grill and his wife Suzy, Wayne Grill and his wife Tammy, Cindie G. Williams and her husband Mike, Monica G. Gibson and her husband Russell, and Brian Grill and his wife Donna. Howard is also survived by the mother of his children, Joyce S. Bailey.
