Deanna Rae "Nana" Burton Johnson, 67, passed on Wednesday, July 14, 2015, at her home. She was born Feb. 8, 1948, in Deming, New Mexico, to James Dee and Lillie Burton; she was an older sister to Janet. Deanna graduated from Deming High School in December 1966. On Jan. 27, 1967 Deanna married Larry Johnson and on Jan. 1, 1974, they welcomed their son, Teak.
In earlier years, Deanna proudly worked at their family business. Deanna loved to laugh and smile, tell stories and visit with everyone. She loved her home, or "castle" as she put it, and decorated it for every season, as well as kept plants and flowers around. Her hobbies included sewing, crafting, ceramics, swimming, golfing, and spending time with friends and family.
Deanna is survived by her husband Larry; son, Teak; grandsons, Logan, 15, and Grayden, 9. Also surviving are her mother, Lillie Burton, and sister, Janet (Ted) Offutt of Deming; niece Tammy (Mike) Smelker, their children Garrett, Mikayla and Tyler, of Las Cruces; niece Amber (Adrian) Aizpuru, their children Adigail, AJ and Abram, of Las Cruces; sister-in-law Linda Johnson and family of Las Cruces; and brother-in-law Wayne Johnson and family of Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Deanna is preceded in death by her father, James Dee Burton, who passed away in July of 1979.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m. at Getz Funeral Home Chapel.
