Robert "Red" Brawner Sr., passed away peacefully Saturday, May 16, 2009. He was a lifelong resident of Green Bay.

Red served eight years in the U.S. Navy stationed on various Naval vessels in the South Pacific. Upon his return from the Navy, Red began his noted career in the beverage alcohol industry. He began in a position with Bur Wholesale, a Pabst Blue Ribbon distributor in Green Bay. From there Red went on to State Manager positions with Heublein and then Seagram's distillers. After many years "on the road" traveling the state of Wisconsin, Red took on the General Manager position of DePere Liquor, a local wine and spirits distributor. Upon the acquisition of DePere Liquor by Badger Liquor, Red was named a Regional Manager and in most recent years worked in a consultant position for Badger Liquor. He worked right up to the time of his death, making for an illustrious, successful and storied career. Red was widely recognized as a most effective "brand builder" within the industry. The recognition and great success of many spirit labels is directly linked to the dedication and hard work by Red. He was a self-taught, "tell it like it is" person totally immersing himself in an industry he so dearly loved and enjoyed.

Red loved to cook and was very proud of his Irish heritage. He enjoyed college and professional sports and would occasionally indulge in a friendly wager. But his true love was the industry in which he was such an integral part of for so many years. Red loved to talk "business". He would sit and talk for hours gladly sharing ideas, examples and guiding principles he obtained from his extensive years of experience. He was gracious, compassionate and most generous to all around him.

Red lived a full and rewarding life thanks to his family and many friends and we should rejoice in that knowledge. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed but forever and lovingly remembered.

He is survived by his wife Carla; children; Bob (Julie) of Laguna Hills, CA, John of Irvine, CA, Mike (Jean) of Green Bay, and Sean of Green Bay. Step-sons, Tony (Malia) Olp, Todd (Sydney) Olp, and Jason (Katie) Olp all of Green Bay. Grandchildren; Jess of Neenah, Sam of Los Angeles, CA and Joey of Hortonville.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 9:30-12:00 pm Thursday, May 21, 2009. A celebration of life in memory of Red will be held Thursday at 12:00 pm with Rev. Larry Seidl officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Red's name.
