She attended Longwood College and Newport News Business College after which she was employed by NASA, Langley Field. While employed there, she met her future husband, Reginald L. Barber and married in 1947. In 1956 they moved to Washington, D.C., where they raised their family. After retirement they resided in Poquoson.
She was preceded in death by her husband and infant son, Robert Allen Barber. Survivors include daughters, Lyn Finnigan (Tom), Catherine Brousseau (Dennis); son, David Barber (Fay); grandchildren, Chris and Brian (Kristin) Finnigan, Kelly Mechling (Andrew), Ryan and Kevin Barber; great grandsons, Rory Finnigan, Liam Barber, and Hike Mechling.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
