John Funkhouser passed away September 12, 2018, at the age of 86. John was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, to Nelson and Parepa Funkhouser. He grew up in Waverly, Virginia, where he was captain of the football team, played trumpet in his family's dance band, and flew planes for the forestry association, as well as his family's airport. John was an Eagle Scout and graduated valedictorian of his high school. John attended West Point, where he was recognized as the best all-around gymnast, before graduating in 1955. He spent his career as an engineer for NASA in Huntsville, Alabama, retiring at age 80. John leaves behind his beloved wife of 26 years, Donna Terry, brother Bobby, children Glenn (Tina), Eric (Cherie), Amy Cleary (Kevin), Owen (Jennifer), and Katie Terry (Shane Scott), 10 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Nelson, and daughter Elizabeth Terry. John will be laid to rest with military honors at the Georgia National Cemetery.
