Robert “Bob” Blaine Adams, 88 of Zionsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Zionsville Meadows after extended illness. He was born on June 20, 1930 in Indianapolis to the late Robert John and Gladys Dean Adams.

Bob grew up in the Riverside neighborhood of Indianapolis along with his parents and three older sisters, Beverly, Mary Kathleen and Gloria. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools, worked from age 14 at his parents’ business (Adams Plating Company) and graduated in 1948 from Arsenal Technical High School. There he met his future wife, Rose “Rosie” Marie Middlemas. Bob attended Butler University from 1948-1950, while continuing to work at the family electroplating plant and, on September 22, 1950, married Rosie.

Mr. Adams joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1951, served Active Duty with the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) out of Ft. Riley (KS) and Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis from 1953-1955 and received an Honorable Discharge from his Reserve commitment in 1961.

Bob and Rosie raised their only son, Rob, on the north side of Indianapolis (Pike Township) during the 1960s and 1970s and, as Rob completed his education at Indiana University-Bloomington and began his career as a mental health professional, the couple moved in 1977 to (then) rural Zionsville where each lived the rest of their lives.

Mr. Adams spent the bulk of his career working in the electro-plating field as a technical representative and, after retirement, consultant for Luster-On Products (Springfield, MA). Although Bob enjoyed his work, it did involve significant travel that took him away from his family. Being “on the road” did afford him the opportunity to pursue his second passion, “chasing down” auto parts for the many late model and classic cars he rebuilt and restored while at home. Rarely was there a time that Bob didn’t have several cars at various stages of restoration and, being very mechanically inclined, he loved both process and outcomes.

Bob was an avid dog lover raising and rescuing many throughout his lifetime. When a Zionsville Police K-9 officer was seriously injured last year, he made a generous donation to help with Jelka’s recovery knowing the ZPD K-9 Division is funded exclusively by donations.

Bob grew up in the Methodist church and was a charter member of Faith Methodist Church in Indianapolis while raising his family. He also was a member of the Zionsville Masonic Lodge, the Murat Shrine and Shrine Horse Patrol. In addition, Bob was an active member of the Zionsville American Legion-Post 79 until his passing and considered everyone affiliated as “family” and truly appreciated fellow veterans and their families’ service and sacrifices for their country. He was particularly grateful to Post 79 for their wonderful support after the loss of his wife in 1996 and, over the last few years as his health began to decline.

Bob was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle to his family and a loyal, kind, honest and generous friend to all those he had the privilege of knowing well. He valued family, country, integrity, kindness, faith and service and truly “walked the walk” throughout his wonderful life. He also had a great smile, laugh and always enjoyed a good joke, even if at his own expense. Bob always made sure that those in his life were well-cared for emotionally, physically and materially. He will truly be missed.

Special thanks go out to the staff at Zionsville Meadows and St. Vincent Health for their professionalism and compassionate care provided to Bob over his last year of life. Also, thank you to the staff and patrons of The Friendly Tavern, who have been consistently kind and attentive to Bob and his family over many years, but particularly the last few when their hospitality and friendship meant the most. Finally, a heartfelt thanks to the Davis and Waddell families, who welcomed Bob and his family into theirs throughout his later years. Their love and generosity was truly a blessing for all involved.

Bob was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Rose “Rosie” Marie Adams, and his three older sisters, Beverly, Mary Kathleen and Gloria.

He is survived by his son, Robert John Adams and granddaughter, Emily Blayne Adams, as well as five nieces and two nephews and their children and grandchildren.
