Selma Beale West Moore, 100, died Monday, September 10, 2018. Born August 30, 1918 in Hampton, she was the daughter of the late Nancy Webb West and Rosser Beale West. She graduated with a teaching degree from Farmville State Teachers College (changed to Longwood College in 1949) and married Floyd William Moore, Jr., who preceded her in death. As an Air Force wife, she travelled extensively and settled back in Hampton next door to her childhood home. She taught Kindergarten at Fox Hill Elementary School and was a member of Wythe Presbyterian Church. She was an avid gardener.

Also preceded in death by her oldest son, William West Moore and her brother, Rosser Beale West, Jr.; survivors include two sons, Phillip Floyd Moore and his wife, Betty and Robert Thomas Moore and his wife, Donna; her daughter-in-law, Stella; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her nephew, RB “Rusty” West, III; and her niece and companion, Nancy Margaret “Meg” West.

The family would like to thank Annette Grant, her caregiver, for the loving care shown to Mrs. Moore for the past ten years. A memorial graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in St. John’s Cemetery. Arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
