Joyce B. Holden, 83, of State College, passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Juniper Village of Brookline. Born May 18, 1934, in Greensburg, Joyce was the daughter of the late Milford A. and Myrtle J. (Keister) Burrell. Joyce married A. Donald Holden, who survives at home, Aug. 13, 1955. Joyce is also survived by her family, three sons, Dale A. Holden, of Delmont, Barry L. Holden and wife, Vanessa, of State College, and Todd A. Holden and wife, Lisa, of Port Matilda. Joyce was a devoted grandmother to her six grandchildren, Renee A. Holden, of Ford City, Olivia M. Holden, of Portland, Ore., Sara E. Holden, of Richmond, Va., Brett A. Holden, of Herndon, Va., Joseph B. Holden, of Port Matilda, and Anna M. Holden, of Port Matilda. She was preceded in death by her six siblings, Eugene Burrell, Clarence Burrell, Elmer Burrell, Carl Burrell, Helen Smith and William Burrell. Joyce was a graduate of Greensburg High School class of 1951. She was employed after high school by the Greensburg School District prior to her marriage. Joyce was an active member of her community in Delmont and was the president of the Delmont Women's Club and member of the Delmont Presbyterian Church. Joyce was employed as the secretary for the Delmont Presbyterian Church for more than 25 years before retiring and moving to State College. Throughout her life, Joyce was an avid Penn State fan, attending all types of Penn State sporting events. Joyce enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and watching Pittsburgh Steelers football and the Pittsburgh Pirates and the State College Spikes baseball games.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME in Delmont. Arrangements are under the care of KOCH FUNERAL HOME, State College.
