Dorothy, A. “Pat” Elkins, 78, of Evansville, passed away, Thursday, September 13, 2018, at her home. She was born December 19, 1939, to the late Louis and Olga Toner.
Pat is survived by her daughters, Genie (Michael) Brooks, and Candi Crebo; stepson, James “Jimmy” (April) Elkins; grandchild, Samantha Garner; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Claire; brother Louis Toner; and sister, Genie (Frank) Roberts.
Candi and I lost our mother Thursday. After a week of hospice, she died at home. She’s been battling heart failure for the past 4 months, and in the last month, she lost her fight to live. Mom touched the lives of so many people in her nearly 79 years on this earth. All of that time spent in New Jersey, Southern California, and Southern Indiana. She loved to find bargains. Garage sales were one of her many passions. And that money she saved went to her other hobby— poker machines at the local casino. She loved animals, especially her little Yorkies, her Boxers, Cats, baby bunnies, baby birds, even reptiles. One of her greatest loves and accomplishments the dozens of babies and toddlers who are now in school or adults (some with kids of their own now), who she cared for, for years. From her first, Shawn to her last Jude, Mom taught them about life and love. This is her legacy. We won’t be having a funeral. Instead, we are planning to celebrate the life of Pat Elkins in the very near future. Please do not send flowers, the frugal part of Mom appreciates the thought but not the money spent. Instead please make a donation on her behalf to the Vanderburgh County Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Dr, Evansville, IN 47710 or to your own local shelter or rescue. Helping furry creatures would make her very happy. We love you Mom and know you are at peace. Arrangements provided by ziemerfuneralhome.
