On October 15, 1908, John R. Bell died at his home in Keosauqua, aged 71 years 11 months and 1 day. He was born in Hancock county, Ill., Nov. 14, 1836 and in the spring of 1837 he came with his parents to this county, settling near Mt. Zion where he lived until he moved to Keosauqua, about two years ago. His first marriage was in 1859 to Sarah A. Bridell who died March 11, 1871. In January 1872, he married Almira Kimmel Bell who died Sept. 16, 1876. On Oct. 3, 1877, he married Mary C. Miller, who survives. Three children, Marietta, Harriet F. and Addie B. were born to the first union; one, John S. to the second union, and one, Carrie, to the last marriage. Mr. Bell was an upright and highly respected citizen and he will be greatly missed in this community. The funeral was held at the M. E. church in Keosauqua at 1 o'clock p. m. Oct. 19, Rev. Thorn, his last pastor, in charge of the services. The burial was in the Purdom cemetery.
