On Friday, September 7, 2018, our most cherished, John D. Archer of Arcanum, OH passed away following a long illness. He was 78 years of age.

A native of Tommy Creek, “JD” as he was affectionately known was born John David Archer on February 17, 1940 to the late Brady Vaughn Archer (1916-1983) and Maude Ethel Collins-Archer (1918-2007). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Marie Archer-Seiler (1934-2004) and Louise Archer-Cline (1936-Deceased).

John spent his childhood at Tommy Creek. He was a graduate of Stoco High School and was a proud Veteran of the US Marine Corps. John would marry a Josephine native, Mary Bell Bolen-Archer (1937-2015), on September 1, 1957 in Rhodell, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1957, Page 505, Application Date: August 27, 1957). John and Mary had known each other since childhood. To their union would be born three children, John David Archer Jr. (Deceased in 2001), James Archer, and Vickie Archer. The family settled in Arcanum, OH, where John worked for Trans World Airlines (American Airlines) for 37 years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, James Archer & wife Amy Archer and their children, Emma Archer, Sydney Archer and Jarrod Archer; daughter, Vickie Hawkey and the late Keith Taylor and their children, Brandon, Sarah, Joshua, Keith and Mary; a brother, Earl Archer of Somerset, KY; two sisters-in-law, Zina Bolen and Louise Meadows; and a large extended family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The burial will be in the Jenny Cole Cemetery at Odd where John will be laid to rest beside Mary Bell and John Jr. and now, “Oh Glad Reunion.” The family will receive friends at 10:00 am on Wednesday at the mortuary.
