It is with great sadness that the family of Billy Ray Holt, announces his passing, on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the age of 68 years. Billy Ray was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on September 19, 1949 to Howard and Billie Beatrice Holt. He is survived by his wife Stephanie and their children and spouses, Ashley Holt Watts and Brad Watts, Aron and Rebecca Holt, and Avery Holt; their grandchildren Ella and Evan Watts; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and James Mullins, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sean and Kim Walker, in-laws Victor and Becky Walker; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Mary Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Billie Beatrice Holt, and by his brothers, Howard, Jr. and Timmy Holt. Billy Ray served as an Oklahoma teacher, coach, and athletic director for 41 years. A long time resident of McAlester, he was known affectionately by most as Coach Holt.
Billy Ray served on the boards of numerous organizations, including McAlester Main Street, McAlester Athletics Hall of Fame, and Old Town Association. He served as Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester.
A Celebration of Billy Ray’s life will be held at 2 pm, on Wednesday, September 19 (also his birthday), at the First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Scott Vandenheuvel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Billy Ray can be made to the Billy Ray Holt Scholarship Fund (in care of McAlester Public Schools Athletic Department, 200 E. Adams, McAlester, OK).
