AURORA — James ‘Jim’ Sample, 71, of Aurora, passed away Friday, September 14, 2018, at CHI-St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 19th at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

James Martin Sample, the son of Clifford and Julia (Vincent) Sample, was born in Ord on August 23, 1947.

He grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School. Jim spent his entire working career working with concrete. He was one of the best concrete finishers in the business. Jim worked at ABC for Jack Payne. He then ran his own business, Blue Construction, for 25 years, following that he worked at Bonnavilla, Standard Iron and Case New Holland.

On May 30, 1976, he was united in marriage to Judy Hartford Bailey McMaster. They enjoyed 42 years together.

Jim had a very deep love for his grandchildren. Jim and Judy enjoyed camping and selling their handmade wooden crafts at nearby craft shows. Jim was very handy, but he was not was a plumber.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Chris McMaster; son-in-law, Murray Rehrs; and two sisters, Esther Trompke and Mary Ann Earl.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy of Aurora; four children, Donna Rehrs and special friend Chris Jensen of Grand Island, Bob (Melanie) McMaster of Worms, Becky (Mark) Francis of Aurora and Tanya (Jeff) Althof of El Cajon, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Reher, Jeff (Megan) Rehrs, Shae (Bri) McMaster, Christian McMaster and special friend Gabby Candle, Kincaid McMaster, Landon McMaster, Tessa Francis, Tanner Francis, Brittany (Jesse) Meyers, Tiffany (Austin) Beuer, Alex Chitty and fiancée Maggie, Natalie Chitty, Robert (Amanda) Althof and Rachael Althof; 14 great-grandchildren, Emma, Dylan and Cole Reher, Jace Kisler, Sergio and Diego Beuer, Lilly, Jacobi and Jackson Meyers, Ari Nunnenkamp, Dani, Emmett, Audrey and Mallie Althof; sister, Susan (Gary) Burkhardt of St. Paul and many other family members and friends.
