Founder of Freeland which was first called Donop's Village, then Freehold in 1870 and finally in 1876, Freeland when the post office was established. Luther Podson was first postmaster. Manus Conahan suggested the name Freeland and he was later called "the Godfather of Freeland. Mr Donop came from New Jersey around 1870 and purchased a large tract of land. He set aside building lots for which he sold for $10 each. He was the first Justice of the Peace, first town clerk and established the waterworks there. His actual death has not been established by this author but it had to be between 1876 and 1881 when his estate to wife Margaret is mentioned. His wife's obituary states she was buried beside him.
