He was a Grand Master Mason and was a former member of Highland Park Lodge #865 F&AM until he moved back to his home town where he became a member of the Cassia Lodge # 272 F&AM.
He was former Fire Chief for Edgewood Fire Department and retired from Sears where he worked in sales.

His parents; his wife; one son: Donald B. Garner Jr.; two brothers: Leslie Garner and James Garner; and two sisters: Opal Garner and Hazel Henderson.
Survivors:
Four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers; five sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends.
