Ricky Edward Dawson, of McAlester, died on Friday, September 14, 2018, at his home, at the age of 61. Ricky was born on February 24, 1957, in Pauls Valley, to Ed Dawson and Ellen (Shirley) Dawson. Ricky began working in the oil field immediately following high school. He retired in 2005 from BTI/Weatherford after 25 years with the company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He recently became a member of North Side Assembly of God. He is survived by his wife, Janie Dawson, of the home; mother, Ellen "Tootsie" Kinslow, of Pauls Valley; father, Ed Dawson, of Pauls Valley; children, Ricky Dale Dawson, of Pauls Valley, Justin Keith Dawson and wife, Krista, of Noble, Anthony Charles Duff and wife, Hannah, of McAlester, Kristina Nicole Ann Dawson, of Ada, and Jacob Edward Dawson, of McAlester; grandchildren, Hunter and Trinity Dawson, Hayden, Dustin, Shelton, and Olivia Dawson, Aorion Duff and Vance Yeager; sisters, Judy Dawson, Gayla Dawson and Melody Hanner; brothers, Sammy Dawson and Donnie Hanner, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends. Rick was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Edward Dawson; grandmother, Essie Shirley; aunts, Letta Mae Beddo and Lavada McCurley, and uncle, Aubry Shirley. The family will greet friends Sunday, September 16, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Chaney's Memorial Chapel.
The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, September 17, at North Side Assembly of God with the Rev. Brian Smith and the Rev. Kerry Kirkhart officiating. He will be laid to rest at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Dawson, Justin Dawson, Anthony Duff, Jacob Dawson, Donnie Hanner and Sammy Dawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Amos, Joe Barnhill, Berry Stinson, Mike McDonald, George Mote and Ben Kennedy.
