Visitation has been scheduled from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday, Aug. 20, 2018 in the Leonard & Marker Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, Aug. 21 in the Mounds First Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Lynn Hill and Pastor Michael Pounds. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery of Mounds with military honors provided by the United States Navy.

Donald Eugene Burgess was born on Aug. 25, 1930 in Mounds, OK to Lewis Everett Burgess and Martha Elizabeth (Cowan) Burgess. He passed from this life on Aug. 17, 2018 in Sapulpa, OK, 8 days before his 88th birthday.

Don had lived in the Mounds community for almost all of his life. He was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He was retired after many years working as an accountant for the Auto Crane Co. He worshipped as a longtime member of the Mounds First Baptist Church where he had also served as Sunday School director and on the finance committee. He was formerly the Mayor of Mounds, served on the Mounds school board and was a member of the Mounds Historical Society and American Legion. He recently was honored as the parade marshall of the Mounds Christmas parade. He loved sports and was a faithful follower and supporter of all the Mounds teams and other school events. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; Virginia Ann Burgess, 1 son; Dana Burgess, 5 siblings; Edward Burgess, Marion Burgess, William Burgess, Evelyn Burgess & Margaret Grimes and 1 grandson; Jeremy Thomas.

He is survived by his current wife; Linda (Marlow) Burgess, whom he married on July 24, 2009 in Mounds as well as by 4 daughters; Nancy Thomas of Sapulpa, Jannie DeWees of Syracuse, NY, Deborah Hoffman of Tulsa & Teresa Whipple of Sapulpa, 1 sister; Laura Purser of Salt Lake City, UT, 13 grandchildren; Valerie, Miranda, Casey, Nicholas, Christopher, Jonathan, Jeff, Rickey, Patrick, Brannon, Danita, Pauli & Jonah, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren along with several other relatives and longtime friends.

Casket bearers are Brannon Whipple, Casey McGuire, Christopher Burgess, Jonathon Burgess, Daniel Wheeler, Benjamin Barnett, Jeff Craig, Rickey Burgess & Nick McGuire.
