Joseph E. Ferris, of 2861 Cleveland Street, Weedville, died on Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2018, at Nelson's Golden Years in DuBois following a lengthy illness.

He was born May 27, 1947, in Bradford, son of the late Robert and Anna (Illerbron) Ferris. He married Judy Kay Leidwinger in 1982, she preceded him in death on October 6, 2015.

He resided in Weedville for many years and was a member of American Legion Post 978 in Weedville; he was Catholic by faith.

He enjoyed his motorcycle, driving his truck, and his grandkids. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received the Purple Heart. He had been employed by Leonard Trucking, Barber Trucking, and Delullo Trucking.

He is survived by three stepchildren: Annette (John) Swanson of Ridgway; Catherine (Tim) Wolfel of Weedville; and Timothy (Melissa) Fannin of Clearfield; five step-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lillian (Jerry) Witherow of Grampian; Patricia Hanes of St. Marys; and Pamela Meyers of Florida; a sister-in-law, Linda Ferris of St. Marys.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Gausman; and three brothers: James, Edward, and Raymond Ferris.

A Memorial Service for Joseph E. Ferris with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Rev. Erik Hart, Pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Burial will be at Oakmont Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
