Becky A. Yates, 71, of Rimersburg, died Tuesday evening September 11, 2018, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh after a long illness.
Born November 23, 1946, in Warren, she was the daughter of Henry and Violet (Ericksen) Petersen. Becky was married to Larry Yates on August 3, 1968, who precedes her in death.
Becky was an Elementary school teacher for 34 years at Union School District and retired in 2002. In her spare time, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and going out to eat with her friends, as well as being very attached to her dog Bam Bam.
Becky is survived by two daughters, Sandy Yates, and Kim Weaver and her husband Chris of Rimersburg; one son, Billy Yates of Rimersburg; two sisters-in-law, Patty Minick and her husband Dan of Rimersburg, and Jean Petersen of Austin Texas; three grandchildren, Aiden and Emma Weaver and Tommy Yates of Rimersburg; her nieces and nephews Tom and Trista Minick and their children, Hobie and Maggie of Sligo and Leighann and Rick Strauser and their children Harleigh and Ava of Rimersburg. She is also survived by her close friend Melissa Reinsel and her children Taylor and Easton of Rimersburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, Becky was preceded in death by her son Eric Yates on December 28, 2014, and her brother Col. Robert Petersen.
Becky’s family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018, at the Varner Funeral Home of Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the funeral home with Rev Mark Deeter of Wildcat Wesleyan Church near Rimersburg, officiating.
Inurnment will follow in the Rimersburg Cemetery.
