Longtime Cody resident Porter Clark Dalton, 76, died April 26, 2007, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings.

Porter was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Cowley, the son of Joseph and Nellie Dalton. He grew up in Cowley and spent his early years working on the family dairy farm.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War as an Aviation Machinist Mate. He worked for Taggart Construction for many years and later established a business in Cody, Dalton's Taxidermy, which he operated for 25 years.

In his youth he was a natural athlete, excelling in all sports, developed an interest in taxidermy, and loved to fish and build model airplanes. Those youthful pursuits carried over into his latter years and personified Porter's life. He enjoyed spending time with friends fishing, flying, carving, laughing and enjoying the great outdoors.

Full of enthusiasm, energy and good humor, hard-working, generous and always willing to lend a hand are just a few of the ways friends describe him.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Third Ward.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Betty Jane, son Steven (Judy) Dalton, daughters Karan (Wayland) Mittlieder and Sherry (Mark) Clark, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1500 Heart Mountain St. Viewing and visitation will be at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Cowley Cemetery at 3 p.m.
