------- obituary ----------------
Louise Martin, 88, a longtime resident of Weaverville, went peacefully to be with Jesus on Aug. 29, 2018, at Hilltop Estates in Redding.
She was preceded in death by her husband Grant JR Martin (60), her son Jimmy Martin (18), and her daughter Nancy Schanaker (56).
She is survived by her brother Cliff Martin, [ probably Clifford E. Kahl], her daughter Linda Martin, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Louise’s mother, Eunice Kahl, opened The Nugget Restaurant (previously Luella’s Cafe) in 1958 where she was well known for her pies. Louise worked in the family business until she started a family of her own.
Louise was a silent yet influential part of her community. There was never a person that she passed in Weaverville who she didn’t know. Grant and Louise started Lion’s Club Kid’s Day, a well-known event which takes place every Independence Day celebration at Lowden Park for kids of all ages. You could always find Louise getting the watermelons ready for the final contest at Kid’s Day. One year after having grown too many pumpkins the Martin family decided to bless the community with their abundance and started Weaverville’s first Pumpkin Patch. Louise loved the children in her community and gave to them every moment she could.
Later in life being a greeter at Weaverville Full Gospel Church brought excitement to Louise every week. Louise was an avid collector of timeless dolls and is known to many as “the doll lady.” She loved square dancing, crocheting and coffee time with friends and family. Her love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held for Louise at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Weaverville Full Gospel Church, 150 Martin Road, Weaverville.
