Clarence D. "Nick" Thomas Sr., 87, of Castle Hill Road died Friday evening at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born April 26, 1897, in Stratton, the son of Eugene and Harriet (Harris) Thomas. He has made his home in Wilmington for more than 60 years and had been employed by a number of area firms including New EngInd Box Co. in Wilmington, and more recently, at Mt. Snow in West Dover from which he retired in 1977. Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Woods, to whom he was married Jan. 15, 1923; two sons, Clarence Jr. of Brattleboro and Everett of Putney; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma Johnson of West Brattleboro and Mrs. Evelyn Stone of Springfield, Mass.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Covey & Allen Funeral Home in Wilmington. The Rev. Dr. Paul Blacketor, pastor of Wilmington Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington.
