Katherine Jewel Richardson was born in Dillion County, SC on January 17, 1992. She was raised in Rowland, NC where she attended Southside-Ashpole Elementary and Rowland Middle School. She loved to learn and was awarded countless accolades as well as becoming a member on of the National Junior Beta Club. In 2006 she was accepted into the Robeson Early College High School program at Robeson Community College where she continued her pursuit of knowledge. During this time she was inducted into the National Beta Club, the National Technical Honor Society, and also became a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor Society. She completed a STEM and NASA internship under the eye of her very close friend and mentor Mr. Louis McIntyre. Katherine graduated from Robeson Early College High School in 2011, where she was the Salutatorian of her graduating class. She was the only graduate to receive an Associate’s Degree in Science and an Associate’s Degree in Arts, as well as her high school diploma. Soon after she officially became a “Tarheel” and was enrolled at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Even as she was seeking a higher education she still found a way to make time for completing another internship, becoming a basic level Emergency Medical Technical, and volunteering at The Helping Hand where she spent time with the elderly. She graduated from the UNC in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry and Native American Studies. She came back to Rowland, NC where she continued on during volunteer work through the local United Way, and she began using her EMT certification to get patient contact hours so she could live out her dream of becoming a Physicians Assistant. She fell in love with emergency medicine and in 2016 she went back to Robeson Community College and obtained her Paramedic level certification because she was tired of sitting back and just watching. Katherine was a member of the Rowland Rescue Squad, Pembroke Rescue Squad and Robeson County Emergency Services. Katherine has a long list of accomplishments and achievements but she has always been a very humble person. If you would ask her about any of her accomplishments she would simply say “They were things I just felt like I had to do”.

Katherine was known throughout her whole family for sitting in her room quietly, captivated by the book she was reading. Often, her mother would have to come tell her to put it down and come eat, go outside, or to go to bed while being unsuccessful most of the time. Katherine was a cheerful person and was always smiling, her fiancé often would say “I could hear her smiling because she would be smiling so big”. She was beautiful on the inside and out and devoted herself to helping her neighbor. Katherine was a devout Christian and there is no doubt that she is currently worshipping the Lord. She will be missed by her loved ones every second of everyday but we are all so thankful that she has been healed.

The funeral service will be Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at Rowland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kelly Barr officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Hill Church Cemetery.
