Obituary for Mr. Jack Lynn Barkhimer
Jack Lynn Barkhimer, 83, of Nashville, Indiana, passed from this life at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Barkhimer was born June 10, 1935, in Columbus, Indiana, the only child of Jasper J. and Norma Ruth Hendershot Barkhimer. He married Shirley Ann Ruch September 21, 1957; she survives.
Mr. Barkhimer was a United States Army veteran. He was a union carpenter with Local 301 in Indianapolis retiring after 23 years of service.
Mr. Barkhimer was a 30-year member of the Bluff Creek Christian Church in Greenwood, a 17-year member of Nashville Christian Church and a current member of Westside Community Church. He was a 50-year Mason; he most recently held membership in the Nashville Masonic Lodge.
Some of Mr. Barkhimer’s hobbies included fishing, especially fly fishing, hunting and camping. He was a talented woodworker and artist and was always a perfectionist in any project he was doing.
Mr. Barkhimer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; his children, Jeffrey Barkhimer of Mooresville and Jennifer Gramse of Columbus; his grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Hardin, Katrina (Nick) Mina, Blake (Ashton) Barkhimer, Bobby (Carly) Gramse, Tyler (Michelle) Barkhimer, Jessica (Chad) Betzler, Amy (Nick) Rumell and Caitlin Barkhimer; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Barkhimer was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Norma Ruth Barkhimer.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Westside Community Church with Pastor Dennis W. Aud and Chaplain Rick Clayton officiating.
Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Section 39 at the Garland Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Westside Community Church.
