Ruby May Sharp passed away at her home on September 9, 2018, surrounded by her family. She will be dearly missed.

Ruby was born February 24, 1929, to James and Katie Leinbach in Umapine. She was the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Theodore Leinbach, Elwood Leinbach, and Ronald Leinbach; and her sister Ruth Kitzmiller.

Ruby graduated from Umapine High School, and then attended business school. Ruby worked for the Veteran’s Hospital, the Union Bulletin, First Federal Savings & Loan, followed by 20 years of service as a clerical assistant at Whitman College.

Ruby was widowed from her husband Richard D. Streck in 1978, and from husband Charles Sharp in 1994. Ruby is survived by her five children: Dan Dickson, Sheri Frandsen, Jeff Streck, Francine Jones, and Rick Streck. Ruby was blessed with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruby was a longtime member of the Amazing Grace Nazarene Church. She was a faithful Christian and enjoyed her fellowship in the church. She loved the Lord. Ruby was known for her kind and gentle spirit. She placed others’ needs before her own, and found great joy in making others happy. If being kind to others were an Olympic event, Ruby would have a closet full of gold medals.

Ruby was an avid Mariners and Seahawks fan. She spent countless hours watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren participate in athletics over several decades. Ruby has viewed hundreds of baseball, soccer, football, and basketball games. Ruby also enjoyed reading, scrapbooking and was an excellent cook. Ruby loved playing board games and will be known in her family as the all-time Yahtzee champion.

A funeral service will be held this Saturday, September 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder Street, Walla Walla.

In Ruby’s honor, memorial contributions may be made to: Walla Walla Community Hospice, 1067 E. Isaacs Avenue, Walla Walla, WA 99362; Blue Mountain Humane Society, 7 E. George Street, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
