James Kowalski, 77, of Stephen, MN, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 11, 2018 at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock, MN.

James Leo Kowalski was born on February 13, 1941 in Stephen, the son of Leo and Amelia (Osowski) Kowalski. He was a lifetime resident of the Stephen area who attended Eagle Point Country School and graduated from Stephen High School in 1961. On June 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Osowski. They made their home in Eagle Point Township where he was a life long farmer. They moved to Stephen in 1993.

He was very active in his community belonging to St. Stephen Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Stephen Lions, Eagle Point Township Board and the American Crystal Sugar Beet Growers Association Board.

Jim loved spending time with family (especially deer hunting), playing pinochle, working in the shop, taking drives to check the crop and visiting with family, friends and strangers.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife of over 53 years, Mary; children, Michael (Mary) Kowalski of East Grand Forks, MN, Steven (Connie) Kowalski of Sioux Falls, SD, Darrin Kowalski of Stephen, MN, Mark Kowalski of Layton, UT, Amy Kowalski and John (Holly) Kowalski all of Stephen, MN; grandchildren, KateLynn, Christopher, Brandon (Liz), Sean, Ashley, Allyson, Ty, Kylee, Bryce, and Finn, and twins on the way; three brothers, Clarion (Marie) Kowalski, Francis (Shirley) Kowalski and Dennis (Marlys) Kowalski and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sophie Grzadzielski, Leona Ebertowski, Isabell Rasmussen, Ernestine Crafton, Dorothy Miller and Henrietta Gerszewski.





MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen, MN.

VISITATION: After 5:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stephen and one hour before services at the church.

INTERMENT: St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery, Stephen, MN
