Karen Bernard -- Rochester
The funeral for Karen Bernard will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston, Minn., with the Rev. Virgil Rasmussen officiating.
Mrs. Bernard, 44, of McIntosh, Minn., formerly of the Rochester area, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 1998) at her home.
Karen Hess was born Jan. 26, 1953, in Rochester, graduated from Chatfield High School in 1971 and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., for two years. On Dec. 1, 1973, she married Steven Bernard in Stewartville. They lived in McIntosh and later in Brooks and Green Bush, Minn., for a short time before returning to McIntosh 19 years ago. Mrs. Bernard sold Home Interior Designs for 17 years, was assistant librarian in McIntosh the last year and taught cake decorating to high school students. She was active in Bethel Assembly church and was involved in Women Ministries and the Teens Encounter Christ program. She enjoyed decorating cakes and remodeling her home.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mathew Steven of McIntosh and Thomas Edward of Orlando, Fla.; her parents, Warren and Jo Mae Hess of Stewartville; two sisters, Kathryn Gillespie of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shari Edge of Rochester; maternal grandmother, Doris Engel of Chatfield; and paternal grandmother, Ella Hess of Stewartville. She was preceded in death by a brother and her grandfathers.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Center in McIntosh, Minn., and an hour before the service Thursday at the church.
