Thomas H. Siegel passed away in Jacksonville, Fla., Friday, July 11, 2014. He fought a 14-year battle with brain cancer.

He was born July 24, 1957, and grew up in Chatfield. He was the fourth son of Robert and Virginia (Potter) Siegel. He graduated from school in Chatfield and from The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Tom worked with a children's theater in Missoula, Mont. He was administrative assistant for actress Carol Channing. Tom then worked in hospitality with the St. Paul Hotel. He moved to Jacksonville in hotel management. Tom then became chef, general manager and owner of The Partners Restaurant. Tom moved back to Chatfield in early 2002. He lived with his parents for about five years, assisting them. He worked for Victoria's Restaurant in Rochester and the Chatfield Nursing Home. He was active in the Wits' End Theater in Chatfield, where he directed and acted. Tom was proud to perform in the George H. Potter auditorium in Chatfield, named for his grandfather. The Minnesota cold moved Tom back to Jacksonville, where he worked as a chef for Blue Cross Corporate offices. He was forced to stop working in early 2014 when the tumors became very aggressive.

He is survived by brothers, Bill (Claudia) Siegel, Rio Rancho, N.M., Jim (Marcia) Siegel, Austin, and Jon (Jane) Siegel Everett, Washington; his uncle and aunt, Robert and Betty Campion, Lake City; and many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces that he loved so much.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Virginia Siegel, grandparents, uncles and aunts.

Tom could not speak for several months, but we know that he wanted to say thank you to all those who helped take care of him in his final months of life or wrote letters or cards of support. He wanted all his friends and relatives to know he cherished every moment of time with each of them and to please not shed a tear for him but smile about the times you shared with him.

A memorial service will take place in Chatfield at the United Methodist Church on Sunday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. There also will be a celebration of his life in Jacksonville, Fla., with his many friends and family.
