According to the WPA readings, Joseph died September 18, 1852. It appears from looking at the gravestone picture, that the WPA readers misread 1857 as 1852.
The burial records for Davis County, Iowa, give his date of death as September 18, 1857. Joseph's estate was probated in Davis County on October 17, 1857, and I believe 1857 was the correct year of death.
Joseph was 25 in the 1850 Census for Harrison, Muskingum County, Ohio, and his birth year was shown as approximately 1825. In the 1856 Census for Davis County, Iowa, Joseph's age was given as 29, and his birth year was given as approximately 1827.
The inscription on Joseph's stone gave his age at death as 32 years and 4 months. The year of birth that I have entered of 1825 is approximate, based on this age at death.
