Carl Henry Stelling, Jr. (August 16, 1920 - March 8, 2014)

Augusta, GA –
Carl Henry Stelling, Jr., 93, loving husband of Mary Katherine Reiser Stelling, died on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was born on Monday, August 16, 1920 in Augusta, GA, to Carl Henry Stelling, Sr. and Lucy Ellen Osborne Stelling.
Mr. Stelling was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, Augusta Junior College, and the University of Georgia. A Veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. Following the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Katherine. He joined Georgia Hardwood Lumber Company, and retired from Georgia Pacific 33 years later.
He belonged to many service, community, and professional organizations, as well as being a lifetime member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Augusta, GA.
During retirement, he continued a long-time passion for gardening, and enjoyed canning and cooking his produce for family and friends.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Mary Katherine, include: daughters Mary Hunter (Jack), Aiken, Vivienne Stopper, Augusta, and Ellen Ohlsen (Greg) of Santa Fe, NM; granddaughters Amy Hunter, Charlotte, Katherine H. Sutherland (Jones) of Blythe-wood, GA, and Lucy Ohlsen, Eugene, OR; and, great-granddaughters Sydney and Megan Sutherland.
He was predeceased by his sister, Ellen S. Turner, and his brother, Rev. Thomas Osborne Stelling.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene Street, Augusta, Georgia.
Visitation will be held in Reiser Hall following the service.
Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene Street, Augusta, GA, or to The Heritage at Lowman, P.O. Box 444, White Rock, SC 29177.
