Rev. Byron G. Johnson, Sr., age 63, passed away on the afternoon of Monday, September 10, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Rev. Johnson was born on August 8, 1955 to James L. and Inez T. (Archer) Johnson.

After graduating from John Adams High School, Rev. Johnson was employed as a welder for White Farm Implement Manufacturing and was a licensed barber. Rev. Johnson was ordained through St. Paul Bethel Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Pastor Gilbert Washington. Prior to his illness, Rev. Johnson led a monthly ministry program at the St. Joseph County Jail. He was a talented singer, public speaker and loved to spread the word of the Lord to others. He would send out daily Bible verses and devotions to those who he wished to share the word with.

Rev. Byron Johnson is survived by his loving wife, Monice R. Thomas-Johnson; his sons: Byron G. Johnson, Jr. of Bloomington, IN, Wesley J. Thomas of Lubbuck, Texas and Jalen V. Williams of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren, Shamari Russell and Amyiah Williams; sister Sylvia Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; special niece, Jennifer Johnson and special nephew, James L. Johnson III; as well as a host of extended family and friends. Rev. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents and brother James L. Johnson II, who passed only eight days prior.

Services for Rev. Byron G. Johnson, Sr. will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 621 Lindsey Street, South Bend. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the church. Pastor Gilbert Washington will officiate.
